What are the cruise seminars?
Purpose
Our aim is to inform as many seafarers about their rights as we can , in their home countries.

We want seafarers to know their rights and to be able to use them.

Why?
As unions, our aim is to improve the working lives of seafarers. Often, the work we do is not visible. Our officers are on board in ports around the world but our visits can be short and busy. A lot of our work is behind the scenes.

We realised that it was important for us to meet seafarers away from work to explain what we do and how it protects seafarers.
First cruise seminar
20 years ago, we brought together a group of seafarers in Bali, Indonesia, to talk about their rights and how the union can help. It was such a success, we developed the programme and took it to more and more cruise seafarers around the world.

Where are our seminars?
Now we have seminars every year. You can join us in

The concept
We bring together a group of seafarers from different cruise companies to meet their unions, share ideas and learn about their rights as a seafarer.
Families are welcome.
Working together, we explore what rights you have as a seafarers and what to do if you need help.
We explain what protections are available through the CBA (collective bargaining agreement).
We also cover subjects like:
-
Health and well-being
-
Solving problems on board
-
What do you if you are dismissed

The programme is designed to educate and inform. We want our participants to return to their ships and share their knowledge with other seafarers.
